Sardinia - Cantina di Santadi Winery
by Philip Rossiter
(Cambridge, UK)
Hi Andy,
I personally recommend the fine wines from the
Cantina di Santadi in the South-West of Sardinia:
My favourites are:
Valli Di Porto Pino, Rocca Rubia, Araja, Antigua, Cala Silente, Pedraia and Villa Solais.
In fact I enjoy all of them, I only wish that they were easier to find in the UK.
Best regards,
Philip Rossiter
Andrew's reply: Thank you Phil for your suggestion, I have been wanting to feature something from
Sardinia for a long time and Cantina di Santadi seems like a great place to start. It looks like a lovely place to visit as well and conveniently close to Cagliari to make it an easy day trip I would imagine.
I have a lot of new estates that I have added over the last few months - many from southern Italy including a great one from Sicily. You really should give it a try. The winery is located just off the main Sicilian island on a stunning little island called Salina. The name of the winery is
Colossi Wine. The south of Italy and in particular the islands of Sicily and Sardinia have always had wonderful potential but they never seemed to live up to it.
I am very pleased to see that it has really started to change over the last ten years with some excellent wines now being produced in both Sardinia and Sicily.
Combining the traditions of the past with the latest international techniques means that I am convinced it is only a matter of time before the Sardinian and Sicilian wines becomes well known throughout the world.
