Planning on visiting the Veneto wine routes or would you like to spend a day visiting wineries near Venice?
You will find a detailed guide on all the different options in the Veneto on Venice-Italy-Veneto.com but, if you only have a day or two to spare, then there are two options that you really should consider...
If you are spending time in Venice and would like a day visiting the wineries near Venice then get yourself a car rental and head out on the Prosecco route. The Prosecco route is, of all the major wine routes, that closest to Venice. You'll find more about it, and a few other routes, here.
Better still give yourself two days and overnight at the excellent Dolce Vista near Valdobbiadene. Valdobbiadene is a pretty little village situated at the gateway to the Prosecco wine route.
If you feel a little daunted at the thought of heading out on your own into the Veneto wine country then rather take this excellent tour. It leaves from Venice and visits one of the best wineries near Venice.
It is perfect if your time is limited and you feel unsure of tackling one of the Veneto wine routes on your own.
This option is the one to consider if you are staying the other side of the Veneto region - in Verona or somewhere on the eastern or southern shores of Lake Garda.
Ideally I would recommend you spend a night in Soave which is an absolutely wonderful little town in the heart of the Soave wine region and very near to Verona. Try to stay at the charming Monte Tondo located in the hills above Soave if at all possible. It isn't always easy to get in as they are very popular so you will need to book well in advance.
Don't worry though if you haven't the time to spend the night in Soave as both the Valpolicella and Soave wine routes can easily be visited as a day trip from both Lake Garda and from Verona. One thing to remember is that you will need a car to explore properly.
There are very many excellent wineries all around Verona and Lake Garda but do try to visit the Faccioli Estate which I feature on this site. I can promise that you won't be disappointed.
